WILKES-BARRE TOWNSHIP -- All hands are on deck this week at Wegmans in Wilkes-Barre Township with Thanksgiving only two days away.

The Tomko family of Hanover Township found themselves among the many people hoping to pick up the last-minute Thanksgiving fixings.

"Hectic, that's the right word for it. I'd rather be in the woods right now standing by a big oak tree," Ed Tomko said.

A family from Waverly found themselves with two cart loads full of food.  They have 27 people coming over for Thanksgiving dinner.

"After today, everything is covered. We just have to get the house ready for a whole lot of people," Katherine Poepperling of Waverly said.

From the vegetables to the desserts, people rushed to get ingredients for last minute dishes.

Amy Metello had to pick up the most important part of her family's meal.

"I just picked out my turkey. I was getting some acorn squash, some green beans ," Metello said.

According to AAA, more than 40 million people are expected to hit the road for Thanksgiving this year.

For those who find themselves at the pump this year, gas prices are cheaper than in years past. According to AAA, gas prices this Thanksgiving are the lowest prices at the pump around the holiday since 2008.

Jarrod Schiffeaur noticed gas is cheaper in Pennsylvania, but he has also seen prices lower in other states.

"I just got out of Boston and this is about 10 cents higher than in the Boston area, but a little more expensive that further west," Schiffeaur said.

According to AAA, Pennsylvania is one of the top 10 most expensive states right now for gas, even though it's down significantly from last year.

Tony Elliott of Wilkes-Barre township says the cheaper the prices at the pump, the better.

"It makes a difference between the times you spend with your family for the simple fact that you've got to fill up, keep going and filling up and filling up," Elliott said.
