POTTSVILLE -- An old bookstore in downtown Pottsville is getting ready for its last chapter.

Good-Will Christian Book Store has had a home on North Centre Street for 65 years. On December 31, the place will close for good.

"We could have closed up many years ago, really, if we were most interesting in making money, but that wasn't my purpose," said Roy Musser, owner of the bookstore.

Musser ran the place for 40 years. He's turning 70 and says it's time to retire. Plus, business hasn't exactly been booming for the past few years, but Musser says his customers still stayed loyal to the place.

"They're coming in and some of them are crying and they make me cry, and they don't know what they're going to do without me."

Many of the longtime customers say they would come for so much more than just books. A lot of them say they would pick up a little something here for pretty much any occasion.

"It's become part of my life when anything goes on in our life," said Rose Eckert of New Philadelphia.

Esther Mengel of Summit Station has been coming to the store for about 40 years.

"I always come up for reading material because I'm an Endless Reader."

She got emotional just thinking about the shop closing up.

"It's a great place. I'm going to miss it."

As for Musser, he says he'll miss the people the most but is ready to move on.

"It was a good run and I'm kind of glad we've come to the end."

The Good-Will Christian Book Store will have sales from now until it closes.
