MAHONING TOWNSHIP -- While many of us are busy preparing for Thanksgiving dinner, many families are stuck in the hospital during the holiday.
To make the holiday week a bit brighter, the staff at Janet Weis Children's Hospital near Danville arranged a "super" kind of visit for its young patients.
Spiderman, Batgirl, Wonder Woman, and Black Lightning all gathered in one place. No, there wasn't an emergency that required four superheroes. The crew paid a visit to the young patients at Janet Weis Children's Hospital near Danville.
"Having a chance to step away from their regular lives and interact with a hero who can brighten their spirits, it's wonderful to see the look of surprise and delight on their faces," said Wonder Woman.
The group is from the Danville branch of "Heroes Alliance," a national group that brings superheroes to children's hospitals.
Many of the kids have to be in the hospital over Thanksgiving, so seeing these superheroes is a bright spot in their week.
"A couple of our kids in our intensive care unit today, their parents actually dressed them up like superheroes in anticipation of the event today, so it gives everyone something to look forward to," said Sarah Hoffman, child life services.
One of the kids who enjoyed the heroes was Isaiah, age 9, of Sunbury.
"His brothers will be jealous, too, because they're really into the superheroes. It means a lot to have special guys come to see him while he's in here," said Molly Long.
Faith Young, age 4, of Shenandoah, is at the age where superheroes are "super cool!"
"She has multiple pairs of socks of superheroes. They have capes and webs. She wears them every day to school," said Samantha Young.
"It's an amazing feeling to know, at least for a few minutes, I can go and make someone's day a little brighter and a little better," said superhero Black Lightning.
After the superheroes visited all of the patients, they posed for pictures with the nurses because Wonder Woman, Spiderman, Black Lightning, and Batgirl call the nurses the real heroes at Janet Weis Children's Hospital.
