JESSUP -- For months, people opposed to the building of a controversial power plant in Lackawanna County said their piece, but Monday, people who want the plant held a rally of their own.

The group Jobs for Jessup rallied at the Jessup Hose Company. Members then turned out in force for a borough council meeting.

Council has yet to approve a permit for Invenergy, the company that wants to build the natural-gas powered plant.

Jobs for Jessup believes the plant will bring money and opportunity to the area.

"There are no issues with this plant. All the fear mongering has proven to be false. There are no obstacles to moving forward. We just need council to do its job tonight. Say yes to the conditional use permit. Please let's get this billion dollar project off the ground," said Frank Keel, with Jobs for Jessup.

Jessup's borough council did not rule on Invenergy's permit request at Monday's meeting.
