PITTSTON -- South Main Street in Pittston is considered a state highway, so when it comes to crossing it, some people think twice.
So Maria Livrone and her husband, who run the Art on Main Street shop in Pittston, designed two unique-looking crossing signs, with the post twisted into the shape of a stick-figure.
“Any motorist cannot say they're going to miss that sign, because it just stands out!" Liverone said.
The signs may be one-of-a-kind in Pittston, but as a tribute to "the quality tomato capital of the world" the designer added a tomato to each of them.
“We're in Pittston! It means everything!" Liverone said of the tomatoes.
Both Pittston and PennDOT signed off on the unique crosswalk signs. The artist hopes other cities will be inspired to mix safety with art.
