EXETER -- If you have been around Luzerne County in the past couple of days, you may have seen some lights, some cameras, and a baby Frankenstein running around.

A feature film is being shot throughout the county and northeastern Pennsylvania was the filmmakers' first choice.

People in Exeter and other parts of Luzerne County may not be used to seeing a feature film being shot in their neighborhoods.

"They came around and told all the neighbors what they were going to do. So I think it's great. It's going to be great for the area," said Norma Cooper of Exeter.

"It was a buzz in the neighborhood. It's different," said another neighbor.

The movie called "Baby Frankenstein" is being produced mainly by a production company from Los Angeles. The comedy tells the story of a college student who becomes friends with a small monster. Director Jon Yonkondy brought the film here to shoot in an area he knows well.

"When I think of stories, I think of stories that relate to home for me. For some reason they say to write what you know. For me, I know NEPA. I know Wilkes-Barre. I know West Pittston. I know Scranton," Yonkondy said.

Part of the film takes place at a home in Exeter, but the crew has also been filming in Tunkhannock, West Pittston, and some well-known places in Wilkes-Barre."

"We wanted to put this in the film. We wanted to feature the best and the brightest of NEPA. In our mind a place that has been here forever and is beautiful and cinematic. It's Boscov's," said Yonkondy.

"Baby Frankenstein" and the crew took over the landmark store in downtown Wilkes-Barre on this day of filming.

As people are getting used to cameras here, the crew is getting used to the area.

"It reminds me of Georgia, like the north Georgia mountains, so it reminds me of home," said Rance Nix, who plays Baby Frankenstein.

The film crew expects to be finished shooting by the end of the week.

Yonkondy plans to be back in the area next summer for a special screening.
