MAHANOY CITY -- It's been 20 years since Mother Teresa visited a church in Mahanoy City.

A lot has changed since then, like the name of this place which is now called Blessed Teresa of Calcutta Catholic Church, but rumors in Rome may lead to a name change in Mahanoy City.

Italian media outlets are reporting Pope Francis plans to make Mother Teresa a saint next year.

"It would be marvelous. I would be over the moon," said Alice Moore of Mahanoy City.

This isn't the first time those rumors have hit the church, but just in case Parishioners in Mahanoy City are in planning mode.

"The moment, or moments, that the pope is announcing that she's a saint, I want the bells to chime. I don't care if it's 4 o'clock in the morning," said Donna Dicasimirro of Mahanoy Township.

Dicasimirro says Mother Teresa's canonization would be extra special because many people saw her work with their own eyes.

"We lived during some of what she did. So many of the other saints we can only read in books."

Church leaders here say they would consider changing the name from "blessed" at the church to "saint," eventually.

The priest at Blessed Teresa says the Vatican usually makes a canonization announcement about a year before the event.

So far, the Vatican has not confirmed the canonization will happen.

"I would love it. It's the thing we're praying for every single day," said Eileen Karlavage of Trenton.

People in Mahanoy City hope to call Blessed Teresa a saint soon.
