JERSEY SHORE -- It was a frightening afternoon for a roofing crew when one of the workers came into contact with a power line.
That man was rushed to the hospital after being rescued from the rooftop.
“We're still actually shaken up about it.”
Photos taken by Newswatcher Paul Garrett show fire crews trying to rescue the roofer after he came into contact with a power line that PPL says had 12,000 volts of electricity running through it
Sisters Danielle and Alysshia Colvine live in the house being worked on and are still reeling from the shock of the terrifying afternoon.
“We heard the zapping from the electricity. We saw a bright light and everything. She was upstairs in her bedroom and then we heard him screaming on the roof. I ran out,” said Danielle.
“I just seen a big old spark outside my window and then Danielle started screaming my name, asked me if I was okay. I didn't even realize what happened at first and Danielle's like, 'Somebody got electrocuted outside.' She ran outside. I ran downstairs,” said Alysshia.
Fire crews say that roofer, Jeffery Waite, was shocked by that electric wire and his co-worker managed to keep him on the roof until fire trucks arrived.
“I think his saving grace was his co-worker that was on the roof with him. That guy, he was a pretty big hero today,” said Ethan Goodbord, the deputy fire chief with the Citizens Fire Company.
Danielle and Alysshia watched from the ground, horrified Waite would fall.
“My hands are still shaking from it,” said Danielle.
Goodbord said his crew worked fast and got Waite down and off to the hospital.
“In our job, today was a good day. All our guys came back to the fire house. Nobody got hurt. The gentleman came off the roof alive and made it to the hospital,” said Goodbord.
Crews tell us Waite suffered third degree burns and other injuries.
