EXETER -- A long-standing restaurant in Luzerne County is up for sale.
After almost 40 years of owning Villa Foglia in Exeter, the owner plans to retire. He hopes a tradition stays -- even after he leaves.
For decades Bernie Foglia has been making Italian food. He works about 15 hours every day. That's the time he puts in to make his food from scratch.
"That's the apple pie. I peel the apples. I do everything. Everything is done fresh," Foglia pointed out.
Before Foglia cooked there, the building housed an Italian restaurant that he went to as a child.
In fact, this place has been an Italian restaurant through at least three ownerships, for almost a century. Now it's up for sale again.
"I never thought he'd sell it, but he's at the age now where he has a lot of health problems. He should retire. But my wife and I come here all the time," said Bill Littleton of Exeter.
"It makes your heart beat. It's a very traditional place. It's always going to be in my mind. Even if it's gone, so I do hope someone continues it," Kristopher Littleton of Laflin said.
"This place is now for sale, because I am starting to wear out. The only way somebody takes over, they have to be dedicated," Foglia said.
He hopes a new owner will continue the legacy of this place as an Italian restaurant for decades to come.
Once Foglia retires, he plans to trade in the long hours in the kitchen for more time with his daughters in California.
