HARRISBURG -- A hearing is scheduled for Monday in Harrisburg that could be a step toward removing Attorney General Kathleen Kane from office.

A seven-member state Senate panel goes to work Monday an important question: can Kathleen Kane do her job without a law license?

The Scranton native is accused of perjury and other crimes. Kane allegedly leaked secret grand jury information and then lied about it, though she denied all allegations.

The state supreme court suspended Kane's law license in September. Kane said she can still be attorney general, because she is still able to function as an administrator.

According to the state senate web site, the panel will hear testimony from county district attorneys, to get their input on how the attorney general's office functions without a licensed leader at the top.

The senate panel has a strong local flavor. It's chaired by John Gordner from Columbia County. Other members include Gene Yaw from Lycoming County, and Lisa Baker from Luzerne County.

The senate panel should have its report complete by the end of the November. If its findings go against Kane, it could recommend the full Senate vote to remove her.
