SCRANTON -- Current Lackawanna County commissioner Pat O'Malley and businessman Jerry Notarianni are declaring victory in the race for county commissioner.

The Democrats addressed supporters just after 10 p.m. at the Radisson Lackawanna Station Hotel in Scranton.

"I think we actually have to do real economic development. We have to stop the political attitude of everyone being concerned about themselves, and actually change the way we look at government, and it's not going to be comfortable, and people are not going to be happy. And I don't care," said Notarianni.

Notarianni was the top vote getter, followed by incumbent O'Malley.

Racing for the Republicans are Laureen Cummings and Bill Jones. Charlie Spano is running a write in campaign.

Cummings appears to be the winner by a slim margin and will be the minority commissioner.

"Lackawanna County is at such a pivotal point right now and they're so lucky to have so many good candidates on the ballot, even on the Democratic side, so I think this election is going to be very good for the county. I look forward to seeing some of the changes that happen," said Cummings.

Democratic commissioner Jim Wansacz lost in the primary, while Ed Staback is not seeking a full term.
