HUNLOCK TOWNSHIP -- A carbon monoxide scare sent three people, including a child, to the hospital in Luzerne County.

That carbon monoxide scare happened at a home near Hunlock Creek and now authorities are looking into what caused it.

Two adults and a child who live in the home on Hartman Road near Hunlock Creek were taken to the hospital. The assistant fire chief says one of the victims was unresponsive after a carbon monoxide scare.

Officials believe a coal stove was not properly functioning.

The assistant chief did not know of any carbon monoxide detectors in the home.

"Without carbon monoxide detectors, it's impossible to recognize whether you have carbon monoxide building up in a residence, other than the symptoms it could present, which include nausea, dizziness, headache, commonly flu-like symptoms," explained Hunlock Creek Assistant Fire Chief Chris Wrubel.

The two adults and one child are now being treated at a hospital.

Neighbors say the family moved into the house near Hunlock Creek last year.
