SCRANTON -- Pennsylvania Chapter of the Lung Cancer Alliance was at the courthouse square in Scranton on Sunday afternoon placing flags in honor of the more than 160,000 people who die every year from the disease.

Organizers said lung cancer is often given a bad wrap, because it's commonly associated with smoking.

Lung Cancer Alliance member Karen Scott said, "Of the people who are diagnosed with lung cancer, 20% are current smokers, 60%  have already quit, and 20% have never smoked. It gets very little funding because it has this stigma attached to it with smoking."

Ribbons with facts about lung cancer will also be tied around the poles in the courthouse square in Scranton.
