TAMAQUA -- Three people were taken to the hospital after suffering from carbon monoxide poisoning in Schuylkill County.

According to police, officers were called to a home Tuesday on Orwigsburg Street in Tamaqua and found an infant, a 12-year-old child, and a man unconscious.

A woman also in the home told police that power to the home had been shut off a couple days before and they were running a generator in the basement.

Police got all four people out of the house after they discovered it was carbon monoxide poisoning.

The woman and the two children were taken to the hospital.

Arc Electric in West Hazleton does everything from fix to install generators.

Electricians say that family in Tamaqua is lucky because running a generator inside is dangerous, especially in the basement.

"That's the worst thing you can do. Actually. It's extremely deadly to do that," said Fred Johnson with Arc Electric.

Experts say if you're going to go out and buy a generator, it's probably best to get a carbon monoxide detector, too.

"In and around your house that's relatively close to where the generator will be located. That's where it could pick up any signs of poisonous gas that could be in your house," said Johnson.

It's unknown if that home in Tamaqua had any carbon monoxide detectors.
