LAMAR TOWNSHIP -- PennDOT hopes a dangerous intersection in Clinton County will be safer now that a $16 million improvement project is complete.

A large sign on Route 220 helps direct traffic still getting used to the new on and off ramps near Mill Hall.

"It was a little trying, you know, through the construction process," said Doug Miller.

After over a decade of planning and over two years of construction, PennDOT and Clinton County officials cut the ribbon officially opening a much safer new Route 220 and Auction Road interchange.

"We were able to put a funding plan to make Route 220 go over the top of the local road and it really gets rid of the conflicts between the Amish buggies and cross traffic between 220,” said Kevin Kline from PennDOT.

The main reason for this bridge project is safety. According to PennDOT, before the bridge project the intersection was the site of several car crashes some of them were deadly.

"The old intersection was a T intersection and it was one of the highest safety accident areas in the district two region," said Kline.

"It makes it a lot safer now for everybody," said Miller.

Wet weather brought the ribbon cutting for the $16 million project inside to central Pennsylvania auto auction owner Doug Miller thinks the improvements will be good for his business.

"It allows them easy on, you know, in and out access. They are not sitting in traffic waiting for the opportunity to jump out in front of a car,” said Miller.

PennDOT plans to add more signs and guide rails in the next few weeks completing the project near Mill Hall.
