LEHIGHTON -- Stacy Fronheiser and Shane Hoffman stood clinging to each other on Saturday, standing in front of the place where their infant daughter Nevah Faith died.

The baby was found dead after a fire in their apartment on South First Street in Lehighton on Friday, the same day she turned 7 months old.

Her mother Stacy Fronheiser says she was downstairs when the fire started in Nevah's room on the top floor. She recalls pulling her daughter from the burned crib and trying to resuscitate her.

Fronheiser sat on the curb and cried as she told her story saying, "I can't believe that she is gone. I did the best I could to take care of her."

Local authorities turned the investigation over to state troopers who spent hours at the scene on Friday searching for evidence. Fronheiser believes that police presence also raised suspicions she did something wrong.

She said, "It is just killing me that people are blaming me for this, and I didn't do it, I really didn't do it."

Fronheiser adds the comments have come online and in person. "I hear people talking that I need to go to hell and I am going to die for this and I need to go to jail."

Nevah's father Shane Hoffman has even heard from people suspecting there was a meth lab in his home.

He said, "They can say what they want, I know she is a good mom."

The parents believe that the fire started in an outlet near the baby's crib that has a nightlight in it, that had only worked intermittently for over a year.

Hoffman added, "We told the landlord that there was some stuff that needed to be fixed and replaces, and she said she'll get to it when she gets a chance to, and she never came back in."

The building has now been condemned and the couple is staying with family.

The Carbon County Coroner's Office tells Newswatch 16 that an autopsy was completed on the baby on Saturday, however results will not be released until the investigation is complete, likely sometime next week.
