CLINTON TOWNSHIP -- The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission has started pulling the plug on a pond in Wayne County even before a public meeting scheduled for Thursday on the state's plans to drain two ponds in Wayne County.

Newswatch 16 stopped by White Oak Pond near Waymart Wednesday after officials say they released about a half-foot of water.

Folks in the area are upset they were blindsided by the move to drain White Oak and Miller Ponds due to what the state claims are unsafe dams.

"They never mentioned draining it as quickly as they are now. We were hoping after the meeting, so my phone as supervisor has been ringing off the hook," said Clinton Township Supervisor Ken Coles.

A spokesman for the Fish and Boat Commission said the agency stopped draining the pond and will wait until after the meeting to continue the process which could take weeks.

That meeting is set for 6 p.m. Thursday at the high school in Forest City.
