WYOMING -- Lots of people use the levee in Luzerne County for recreation every day. But in one community, the fun abruptly ended for some people who found their cars vandalized.

The latest incident happened Monday night.

Nearly every day, Delores Schake will walk the levee near Wyoming. She's thankful for the trail where she can exercise and feel safe.

"It gives you something to do. It's beautiful scenery."

But she doesn't feel safe in the parking lot, where vehicle break-ins have been happening for years.

Newswatch 16 found broken glass on several parking spots there.

"We would see glass on pavement. Obviously, people's windows have been smashed into. So, I park across in the shopper center area," said Schake.

Over the weekend we had one break-in. We had another one on Monday," said Wyoming police commissioner Mike Flanagan.

He explains it's been a struggle to curb the thefts.

"There is no pattern, so it's hard for us to dedicate resources at a certain time because we don't know when it's going to occur."

Now, police in Wyoming need help. They asked county officials to install security cameras in the parking lot to prevent damage.

"When I leave my car here," explained Gene Kwitkoski. "I'm gone for like 45 minutes, you don't know what's going on, so it might help!"

"I think they should add security cameras, yes!" said David Winters.

The Luzerne County Flood Protection Authority oversees the levee. The county is now considering adding cameras to make the place safer for everyone to enjoy.
