TUNKHANNOCK TOWNSHIP -- Lazybrook Park near Tunkhannock might look empty now, but soon enough, it will be filled with thousands of people and hundreds of vendors, including Nimble Hill Winery.

"There is a huge festival going on in Tunkhannock held by our rotary club in town and it has turned into quite the wine festival in the last few years," said Jennifer Durland, Nimble Hill Winery manager.

The annual Tunkhannock Rotary Harvest and Wine Festival treats visitors to a variety of different foods, drinks, and crafts.

Managers at Nimble Hill Winery said they have been a part of the event since it started eight years ago.

"This end of the Endless Mountains is absolutely beautiful this time of year. To have a festival going on at the same time is just a wonderful asset," said Durland.

Tickets are $20 and all proceeds go back to the community.

Bev Vanduzer traveled all the way from Pittsburgh with her husband to go to the festival.

"Well this is our first time . We've been told by my niece and my sister-in-law that it's a lot of fun and it's getting bigger every year. There's crafts and everything so we are looking forward to it," said Bev Vanduzer.

Organizers say not only does the wine festival help get people to the Tunkhannock area, but it also helps businesses. A few places really cashing in are hotels. Many of the rooms are filled with people going to the festival.

"We have seven different states where people are coming from and we have someone from Connecticut coming down and last year they started bringing buses in from different areas," said Ron Furman, Tunkhannock Rotary Club president.

This is the third year Ron Furman has been in charge of the festival. He said although the attendance grows each year, one thing remains the same.

"We've lucked out. We never have rain, knock on wood, but we have sunny weather every year. They love the setting, people do because it's in the valley here," said Furman.

The Harvest and Wine Festival will begin Saturday at 11 a.m. and end at 5 p.m.

An error on the Rotary Club's site caused cancelation message to accidentally be sent out on Friday, but the club reassured people on its Facebook page that the event is still on for Saturday.
