SCRANTON -- It was a celebration in Scranton, marking the completion of a big expansion project to Geisinger-Community Medical Center.

A ribbon cutting celebrated the end of the $97 million project that added significantly to the G-CMC campus.

There's a new intensive care, operating suite, lobby, and more increasing the space there by 35 percent.

G-CMC employs 1,600 people and the CEO says it's now able to offer more services locally.

"It's actually easier to take better care of people and they don't have to leave town. So from a family standpoint, you're so stressed when you're sick and then family members have to go somewhere. This just takes that off the map so you can focus on getting better," Geisinger CEO Dr. David Feinberg said.

The expansion at G-CMC is part of a $158 million investment Geisinger says it is making in the Scranton area.
