DREHER TOWNSHIP -- State police in Wayne County have arrested a teen for a violent home invasion that severely hurt an elderly woman.

That 83-year-old woman is still in a coma after being attacked last week inside her home near Newfoundland.

Azaiah Williams, 15, of Tobyhanna had nothing to say at his arraignment early Thursday morning.

The teenager faces a laundry list of charges including attempted homicide, rape, aggravated assault, robbery, and theft.

According to troopers, Williams knocked on the door of her home in Wayne County last week asking to use a phone. That's when he stabbed the 83-year-old woman repeatedly.

After days of searching and interviews, police located Williams after the elderly woman's credit card ended up in Williams' possession and a relative of Williams called state police. Arrest papers show that Williams' guardian conveyed to state police that Williams has been in trouble several times before.

According to arrest papers, Williams later confessed entirely to troopers and added that he was harassing locals by knocking on their doors.

When the elderly woman answered the door with a knife in her hand, Williams let himself in and took it upon himself to stab her and rape her.

Williams is due in court next week.

The elderly woman is still in the hospital and in a medically induced coma at this time.

Madeline Stanton lives just down the road from where it all happened. She says she can rest easier now that troopers say they have their man, but still can't comprehend why Azaiah Williams did it.

"How can you do that to an elderly woman?" Stanton asked. "You've got to be kidding me. He deserves the maximum penalty for what he's done."

"Not only stabbed her brutally, but he raped her," said Tom Parry, who also lives a few houses down from the victim. " [The] kid is an animal. He's going to be nothing but trouble as long as he lives."
