BLOOMSBURG -- Grotto Pizza is one of those stands at the Bloomsburg Fair that always seems to have a long line no matter what time of day it is.

"The pizza's good every year," Bob Sterner said.

With a reputation like that, they must be doing something right.

Co-owner Armand Mascioli "hired" me for the day. He explained why things run smoothly at Grotto.

"A lot has to do with the actual production so that you're consistent. Our goal is to make every pizza the same," Mascioli said.

After I washed my hands it was time to get to work. Armand showed me how to stretch the pizza dough.

Then it was my turn to try.

"It's gotten a little bigger so you're making progress."

"This person's not getting that big of a pizza, I guess," I said.

But I still wanted to spin the dough. Spinning pizza dough is something I've always wanted to try!

"That's not good either though. Not bad for a first timer," Mascioli said.

"Okay, you're just saying that."

Putting the cheese on the pizza was easy, but the sauce, not so much!

"Well, not the best looking tomato pie," Mascioli said.

I figured I'd be better off serving the hungry customers. Employee Clarissa Hess showed me what to do.

"I think you did really well."

"Are you just saying that?"

"No, no, I'm being honest," Hess said.

Clarissa thought I did good, but then it was time to ask the boss.

"I think you did pretty good. As a matter of fact I think you did very good for the first time," Mascioli said.

He may not hire me for the rest of the Bloomsburg Fair, but he sent me away with the pizza I made, and it was actually very good!
