WILLIAMSPORT -- A big tent is going up outside the new Peter Lynn Science Center at Lycoming College in Williamsport. With some landscape work underway, the school plans to show off the new $8 million addition this weekend.

"I feel like surprising that they actually got it up in the time that they said it would. It's nice now."

Inside the building, science majors are already working through problems in a new physics lab.

Physics major John Woodburn said last year his classes were all over campus.

"Everywhere! I was in the Heim. I was in the library. Now I'm just strictly in this building," said Woodburn.

The science center was built with astronomy, geology, and physics majors just like Woodburn in mind. The building has several new labs with mobile furniture, study rooms, and brand new laptops.

"When I was taking classes last year, we had to do our labs and then go to the computer labs separately to finish our labs up so that would take more time," said Woodburn.

Another convenience for students: the Heim building and the new Lynn Science center are connected through a walkway. That means all of the courses offered here for the sciences at Lycoming College are under one roof.

"What we have up there now is the layered earth, this talks about the geology."

Professor Charles Doersam teaches physics but is also the director of the new Detwiler Planetarium at Lycoming College.

"Digital projection system not only allows us not only to do astronomy but to talk about geology, biology, chemistry, history,” said Charles Doersam.

Lycoming College will hold a dedication service for the Peter Lynn Science Center this Saturday at 2 p.m. in Williamsport.
