TUNKHANNOCK -- A library in Wyoming County is picking up the pieces after a vehicle, probably a large truck, damaged several parts of the library.

Sometime between Tuesday night into early Wednesday morning, Tunkhannock Library Director Kristin Smith-Gary believes a truck failed miserably at trying to turn around. In doing so, it busted a gutter, knocked down a lamp post, and snapped tree branches.

"It was like a whole day of unhappy surprises," she said.

"How the gutter got hit is a good question," explained Alex Flanagan of Tunkhannock. "This is kind of a restricted area - I mean narrow and everything. Why would a large truck come down this way at night? I don't understand it."

According to Smith-Gary, no one has been found responsible yet for all the damage.

Insurance will cover a good portion of the damages like the lamp post, but the library director added that the reckless driver responsible for all this is still leaving quite an impact.

"A $1,000 deductible would pay for 250 books that are not going to be bought," Smith-Gary added.

On top of that, Smith-Gary explained that children's programs will need to be scaled back next summer to help offset these unexpected costs.

The library does not have surveillance cameras. But as a result to all the damage, the library board recently voted to have them installed around the building.

If you have any information about who is responsible for this, you're asked to call Tunkhannock Township Police.
