JERSEY SHORE -- A family in Lycoming County says their 12-year-old son had a loving and giving heart. That's why they have decided to donate it and his other organs after his sudden passing Thursday.

Jacob Walters, 12, from Jersey Shore passed away Thursday at a hospital. Jacob was thrown from his bicycle Wednesday after he rode into the side of an SUV driving down his street.

"This is a picture of my son when he was probably about 6 months and I could just see that smile on him all the time."

It's been less than 24 hours since Amanda Walters son Jacob passed away.

Police say Wednesday evening Jacob collided with an SUV while on his bike near their home in Jersey Shore.

The mom of two showed courage as she shared pictures and memories of her son.

"Full of life," she said. "I don't think there was a person in this community that didn't know him."

Tiadaghton Valley investigator Marlin Angelo tells us a woman from Mill Hall was driving down Calvert Street.

"The young boy, age 12, emerged from an alley and ran into the side of her vehicle, which in turn ejected him from his bicycle," said Detective Angelo.

Police say some trees may have blocked the boy and the driver from seeing one another when the crash happened. They also say the driver was not speeding when the boy hit the side of the vehicle.

Jacob was a sixth grader at Jersey Shore Middle School. His mom says he loved playing with Legos, his nerf gun, and riding his bike.

"He had a smile on his face. He was just a joy to everyone," Amanda said.

Walters hopes that joy will live on now that the family has decided to donate Jacob's organs.

"Someday we can maybe meet whoever got his organs, and hear that heartbeat in someone else, and know that we saved another life, and that there might have been a reason this all took place."

The Walters say, right now, prayer and community support are helping them through this difficult time.

There is a donation page setup for the family.
