SCHUYLKILL HAVEN -- Some people like spring cleaning; others prefer to throw it all away in the fall. Now Schuylkill County can help you clear out the clutter.

Got trash? Schuylkill County can help you get rid of it during a county-wide recycling event.

At Schuylkill Haven's recycling center, crews have been busy sorting all the items people have been dropping off.

"Sofas, chairs, scrap metal, tires."

Some of the most popular items people are bringing to drop off are old TVs.

"They're starting to be a thing of the past, floor model TVs. I can't believe how many are out there yet," said Schuylkill Haven highway foreman Brian Murray.

If you're a Schuylkill County resident, you can drop off scrap tires, electronics, and more.

"Some old cash registers, electronic ones, a big piece of glass, a 2x4, and a tire with a rim," said William Jefferson, adding that he can always find stuff around the house to recycle.

"I do it every year. It's a way for people to clean up their place to get rid of stuff."

Officials say events like this are the best way to keep Schuylkill County clean and help the environment.

"Instead of ending up in a landfill or along the side of the road somewhere, the precious metals in them can be recycled and the plastics on them can be recycled and used for further use," Murray added.

Schuylkill Haven is just one of the locations where you can drop off recyclables through September 26.

There is a fee to recycle certain things such as sofas and tires.
