KINGSTON -- A horrific crash that happened on Wyoming Avenue near Dorrance Street in Kingston Sunday has left 12-year-old Joshua Simon still in the hospital, where he could remain for months as he undergoes several surgeries.

“This is tough to handle. This is any parent's nightmare,” his dad, Ben Simon said.

It's painful for Ben Simon of Kingston to describe what happened to his 12-year-old son Joshua.

"Josh is fighting for his life,” he said.

According to court documents, witnesses tell police they saw two vehicles that appeared to be racing at more than 70 miles an hour.

One of those vehicles crashed into a pickup truck driven by Joshua’s mother. It was traveling in the opposite direction. Joshua was a passenger. He and two other kids in the pickup were flown to Geisinger Medical Center near Danville.

“He has multiple skull fractures, hip fractures, pelvic area fractures. His back is fractured. His organs are swollen and bruised,” Simon said. “He was able to finally breathe on his own and he's started to respond but he's still in very bad condition."

Police obtained search warrants to inspect the two vehicles involved in the crash. No charges have been filed, but the Simon family hopes law enforcement holds both drivers who were allegedly speeding responsible.

“A day of fun can lead to something like this and there's repercussions for your actions,” Simon’s dad said.

Police wouldn't comment if the driver of the second vehicle in the alleged drag racing will face charges because their investigation is ongoing. As for young Joshua Simon, he could remain in the hospital for about three months. There is a GoFundMe page set up for him to helpthe family. There's also a fundraising event October 3.
