FREELAND -- Serving up pizza cheesy, hot, and holy?
The Garlic Knot Pizzeria in Freeland placed an order for new pizza boxes and what they got wasn't your average to-go box.
"They showed up I think almost by coincidence," said Bonnie Yurko, the owner of The Garlic Knot.
The large pizza boxes show a drawing of Pope Francis standing in front of the Philadelphia skyline.
The owner of the pizzeria says she uses a vendor in Philly to buy the boxes and was running low, so she placed her usual order for regular boxes.
But when the delivery came, there was His Holiness!
The delivery came with a note that says it's a limited edition in honor of the pope's visit to Philadelphia for the meeting of families later this month.
"It's also been a pizza, never the pope! But we'll do with him. He doesn't come here that often," said Yurko.
The box had some people joking that it brings the people's pope to a whole new level.
"He's the Pizza Pope! Absolutely."
Others want to know if the box comes with a holy slice or papal pie!
"If people make a big deal out of it, God bless them."
The Garlic Knot is a very busy place and there aren't too many boxes left. The owner thinks that the boxes may be gone before the pope even comes to Pennsylvania.
"They're flying out of here!"
Now the question is: how do people feel about putting the pope out with the rest of the trash when they finish the pizza?
"I've never seen the pope commemorated on a pizza box before, so I don't think I can throw it away," said Rachel Baxter of Freeland.
Anthony Baxter said, "My mom, God rest her soul, wouldn't be happy, but I would probably throw it away."
The Garlic Knot doesn't plan to run any specials because of the pope pizza box, but the owner did say she might keep one for herself.
