KINGSTON -- A packed house of worship at the new Restored Church on South Meade Street in Wilkes-Barre.

The church has only been around for about two years and is non-denominational.

It's new home is the former Welsh Presbyterian Church, which has been around for decades.

Restored Church got this space thanks to a $100,000 grant from the Luzerne Foundation.

Co-pastor Dan Nichols says it's an honor to be here.

"It`s all about community, relationships and just loving people because they`re human," said Nichols.

The pastor says more and more people keep joining the church and it might have to do with a billboard that members put up on Route 309 in Luzerne County last year

The sign was all about sex and it certainly had people talking.

"Not only national attention for the billboard, but international attention. We didn`t except that," said Nichols.

Church members say it's not just about the shock factor, it's about helping the community.

The new sign says the church is in the city for the city.

Nichols said, "That`s the theme of this grand re-opening. We are in Wilkes-Barre, for Wilkes-Barre and we want Wilkes-Barre to be a better place."

Church leaders believe if more people got involved in church there would be less crime in the city.

Troy Eley joined the church, just days after getting out of prison.

"I was involved with a lot of drug activity. I was doing a lot of wrong things," said Eley.

Eley says this church can help a lot of people in Wilkes-Barre who may be involved in things like drugs or crimes.

He says there is an important thing to remember and he painted it on the wall.

It says 'no perfect people allowed.'

"I have to be a good example to other people and just let my story reflect on other people," said Eley.

People who live in Wilkes-Barre, but don't go to the church say at this point, another church in the city certainly can't make the place worse.

"Times are changing, people are changing, it`s time to get with the times," said Joe Wichowski.

As for any more attention-grabbing billboards, church leaders say we'll just have to wait and see.
