PENN FOREST TOWNSHIP -- The case of a missing man in Luzerne County is now a homicide.

Samuel Vacante's body was found Sunday near Albrightsville.

After an autopsy, his death was ruled a homicide, but so far police aren't saying who killed Vacante or why.

Samuel Vacante of Drums was last seen alive on August 31.

On Sunday, almost a week later, state police found his body in a wooded area off Petrarch Trail near Albrightsville, turning a missing persons case into a homicide investigation.

Not only had Vacante been missing but so was his white Kia sedan.

Then on Thursday, state police, Hazleton police, and Butler Township police spent all day searching two locations. One was on Conventry Road in Drums which is where Vacante lived.

The other was on West 10th Street in Hazleton close to where police found Vacante's missing car.

Eleazar Yisrael lives in that home in Hazleton and police arrested him on drug charges.

Police are not saying if he is also a suspect in this homicide case, but people who live near where Vacante's body was found in Carbon County   say it all seems kind of crazy.

"I went by there yesterday, didn't see any police tape, caution tape, no indications of anything out of normal," said Penn Forest Township resident Robert McFarland.

People who live in the development say they're really not even surprised that a body was found there. They say it gets very dark at night with no street lights. But they do say many people who live around there have something on their homes that might help police.

"Most of the places around here are vacation homes, so I'm sure with surveillance, everybody has cameras nowadays."

So far officials will not say if anyone is in custody for Vacante's murder.

State police ask if anyone saw Vacante's white Kia sedan on Monday afternoon, August 31 to give them a call.
