RIVERSIDE --  Workers at a farm market in Northumberland County spent their holiday fixing property damaged by vandals. Over the weekend someone caused thousands of dollars in damage.

A worker sprayed a fresh coat of paint on the fence around Pumpkinville, a seasonal play place behind Whitenight's Farm and Greenhouse in Riverside.

"He could've been out in the pool or cleaning out maybe something a little more leisurely. No, he's here," said owner Patty Whitenight.

The owners spent this Labor day Fixing broken equipment after vandals broke into their store over the weekend.

Whitenight snapped pictures of the damage.

"Unlocked the door, walked in on watermelon and milk smashed all over the floor, quite a mess," she said.

"I couldn't believe it that someone would come and destroy something like this. I talked to Brian he said it was probably a bunch of kids," said neighbor Crev Merrell.

"We assume it's some strong young people with some bad choices," Whitenight added.

Whoever went inside the business also damaged property outside the business. A tomato plant was pushed over and dozens of mums were stepped on and crushed. The family says they have been growing them since June.

"They walked through at least 50 mums," said Whitenight. "Swing sets, loading areas for foam pits, towers, things knocked over and banged up."

The owners say no money was stolen but the mess the vandals left behind is a blow to business.

"Calculating it was about just shy of about $1,000 damage and we keep finding little things that are broken."

Family members say they haven't let the mess affect store hours. Whitenight's Farm and Greenhouse will be back open for business after Labor Day.
