SMITHFIELD TOWNSHIP -- The smell of garlic in the air lets thousands of people in Monroe County know the Pocono Garlic Festival is back for another year.

"We have so much fun and I love the food," said Kris Wetzel of Doylestown. "You taste everything and oh it's so delicious."

The Wetzel family has been coming to the garlic festival for the past four years. "Do you like garlic? I love garlic. It's really good for you."

With about 60 vendors set up all throughout Shawnee Mountain Ski Resort, the 21st annual Pocono Garlic Festival allows small businesses to show off its products and encourages visitors to shop local.

But for Jilly Staffa from New Jersey, it's a new family tradition.

Staffa said, "This is my second time. My parents love garlic. They are actually up from South Carolina. My brother and his girlfriend are up from Florida because I raved about it last year. So we all came with my cousins this year. So, we are all here."

People here say the nice part about the garlic festival is that you never know what you're going to find. Whether it be a unique craft or even unique food, like many people lining up at the garlic ice cream stand.

Bill Tkacs from New Jersey says he's been waiting a long time to get his hands back on some garlic ice cream.

"The creaminess of the ice cream and then you get the taste of the garlic and then you get the bits of the garlic that are in it. It's very good," said Tkacs.

Others say while they might pass on the garlic flavored ice cream. They do enjoy seeing all the different ways to use garlic.

The Pocono Garlic Festival will run until 6 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 6.
