STROUDSBURG -- Preparations are well underway for one of the biggest celebrations Stroudsburg has planned in quite some time. Crews spent Friday sprucing up Main Street for the thousands of visitors and the occasion.

"Yes, big party, big party, 200th anniversary, the bicentennial of Stroudsburg Borough, and the 10th anniversary of the Sherman Theater,” said Stroudsfest Coordinator Lorna O’Farrell.

O’Farrell has been planning this year’s Stroudfest and says more than 100 vendors will line downtown. The borough has jumped on board to mark its 200th birthday with the big crowd.

"It is a celebration. It's kind of like a person, when it's your birthday people get excited and they help you celebrate your birthday. For the Borough, it's very important that we're here,” said Stroudsburg Borough Manager Cathy Thomas.

To make the occasion one that’s remembered for generations, Stroudsburg assembled a time capsule. It will be buried Saturday afternoon in front of the courthouse. It’s packed with letters, memories, memorabilia and will be opened 50 years from now in 2065.

During this weekend's big celebrations Courthouse Square will be closed to traffic but nearby Main Street will be open to try and alleviate some of that congestion coming through downtown.

With three music stages, food, free ice cream from the borough, and more--thousands are expected downtown.

“The municipal parking lot is going to be open for free. The people can walk there and come down to the area and then of course the parking in the outer areas as well,” said O’Farrell.

Fireworks will light up the night sky to end the big day with a big bang.
