PLYMOUTH -- They say there's no place like home, but for Dierdra Kraner the saying has a whole new meaning. She lives in the upstairs unit in an apartment house on Shawnee Avenue in Plymouth and was supposed to move into the first floor unit. But after an SUV plowed right through it, it might be a while before that happens.

“It sounded like a shelf fell in my bedroom, and I looked out of my window, and I’m like, 'Oh my God, somebody ran into my house!" Kraner said.

Newswatch 16 was there early Thursday morning shortly after an SUV plowed into the apartment.

"I feel really bad for her, very heartbroken and everything,” said Marc Pacheco, the grandson of the tenant who lives in the apartment.

At the time of the crash, she happened to be staying at her granddaughter's apartment, dog-sitting.

"She was moving out anyway, and it's just a sign of her to get out,” Pacheco said.

Before that crash, neighbors who live on Orchard Street tell Newswatch 16 they heard at least three gun shots, then a vehicle take off. After crashing into the apartment, the driver jumped out of the SUV and tried running away, but was later caught by police.

For now, the house in uninhabitable and police are still searching for whoever fired those shots.

As for the driver who tried fleeing the scene, police haven't said where in the vehicle the shots were fired or if charges would be filed against him.
