BALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP -- A student from Central Mountain High School injured in a crash last month in Clinton County has died.
Troopers said Carter Allison, 17, of Mill Hall was hurt during a crash in Bald Eagle Township on August 18.
Neighbors say Allison was passionate about running track. He was on his way home from practice last month when he crashed near Mill Hall.
He died Tuesday night in the hospital from his injuries.
Classmates at Central Mountain High School say Carter would have been a senior, but never got to start the school year.
You can still see the skid marks on the road near Mill Hall and the damaged tree where Carter Allison crashed his car on August 18.
Neighbors say Allison was coming home from track practice around 9:45 a.m. He was about to start his senior year at Central Mountain High School.
"Very intelligent, good athlete," said neighbor Jeff Johnson. "He was just the kind of kid you'd really want your kids to associate with."
According to the coroner, Carter Allison died at Geisinger Medical Center near Danville from the injuries he suffered in the crash two weeks ago.
State police say Allison was driving at a high rate of speed, lost control of his car, hit a tree, and went down an embankment.
According to school officials, Allison ran track and cross country at Central Mountain.
The Allison family's neighbors say they are a tight-knit group. When they found out about the crash, one neighbor organized a fundraiser to buy the family a gas card because of frequent trips to the hospital.
"Soon as my wife and I saw that in our mailbox, my wife Sandy went up there right away and took care of it," said neighbor Lewis Summers.
Neighbors say the news of Carter's passing devastates them. They say the teenager always had a smile for them.
"It really hits home, especially when you have kids that same age and it's just a real sad thing," said Johnson.
"It hits close to home," Summers added. "I knew him for seven years, I have grandkids that are his age and it makes you think. My granddaughter who is 16, she's just learning to drive."
The principal at Central Mountain High School says there were grief counselors available all day to talk to students about the loss.
