RYAN TOWNSHIP -- On a warm summer day on the last day of August you won't find many people at Locust Lake State Park.

George Matalavage of New Philadelphia is fine with that.

He brought his kayak to the lake in Schuylkill County to take a few laps and of course soak in the sunshine.

"We don't have too much weather like this remaining, so I thought I'd get out and enjoy it," Matalavage said.

Little did he know he would have the lake practically to himself.

He did have to share it with 4-year-old Evan who was playing by the beach.

His mom who just had a baby three months ago says she's enjoying the last few weeks of summer.

"Oh yeah, definitely. We'll get any last bit of summer that we can before the cool weather starts coming in," Shelby Halat of Pottsville said.

Typically this time of year temperatures are usually in the 70s by now.

With mid-80 degree temperatures and possibly 90 degrees on the way this week, people say they're loving it.

Dale Williams and his dog Marty welcome the warmth. They really enjoy the fact that they have the campground practically to themselves.

"This is our best time. You know, we kind of even try to stay away from weekends because it's more crowded. It's just more peaceful. We just seek the peace and quiet," Williams said.

There isn't a lot of quiet when Amanda Jimenez's son rides his bike through the park. For the mother from Allentown all that really matters for her is that it's still summer and it's still hot.

"Well I'm loving it. Taking advantage because summer is almost over. So it feels really good. I'm a little sweaty but it feels good though," Jimenez said.

While the state park near Mahanoy City was closed on Monday, park officials expect it to be packed for Labor Day weekend.
