WYALUSING TOWNSHIP -- A crash in Bradford County Saturday night left two teenagers dead.

State police say the wreck happened around 9:15 p.m. on Route 706 near the intersection with Route 409 in Camptown, north of Wyalusing.

Troopers say a pickup truck driven by Troy Stone, 19, of Wyalusing tried to pass another vehicle, crossed the center line, and hit an oncoming car.

Stone's pickup went off the road, crashed into several trees, and ended up down an embankment.

Two passengers in Stone's vehicle were killed. Troopers identify the victims as Colin Flynn, 18, and Brendan Hall, 18.

Stone and another passenger, Kara Johnson, 20, of Wyalusing, were taken to the hospital. The driver of the other vehicle, Staci Short, 33, of Wyalusing, was also taken to the hospital.

State police say they believe that speed and underage drinking were factors in the crash, but the investigation is ongoing.

In the hours following the crash, stunned friends and family lingered at the scene.

One was Carrie Wilson, a former EMT. A veteran of many crash scenes, she says this one was the worst she has witnessed.

"I have never seen one as bad as this one, never, no, it was awful."

Friends say Brendan Hall would have started his senior year at Wyalusing Senior High School, and that Flynn was a recent graduate of Towanda.

Rick Tunicliff recalled the victims as lively young men who liked to talk about girls and reminded him of his youth.

"We had a lot of fun with them," he said.

While state police suspect that Stone was drinking and driving too fast people we met say they know him as a responsible hard-worker, and that makes what happened tougher to comprehend.

Logan Stone, a cousin said, "He's really a good kid, doesn't get in much trouble, always really good in school." He adds that he will support his cousin however he can. "Just be there for him, whatever he needs."

Troopers say that none of the people involved in the crash was wearing a seat belt.

State police say Stone has not been arrested or charged, and is out of the hospital. The two women who were injured are still being treated, but are expected to survive.

The first day of school for the Wyalusing Area District is Tuesday. Carrie Wilson says it will somber.

"They are going to be minus a classmate, and that is going to be tough."
