PLAINS TOWNSHIP -- A crash in Luzerne County left two people dead and sent another person to the hospital.

Investigators were called to a deadly three-vehicle crash on North River Street, near Wilkes-Barre, around 7:30 a.m. Thursday.

Officers believe a Jeep was traveling north, swerved into the opposite lane, and collided with a dump truck. Two people in the Jeep were killed.

The coroner identifies Kenneth Cromer, 56, of Mountain Top as the driver of the Jeep. The family of the passenger is still being notified.

UPDATE: On Friday, the coroner identified the passenger as Jhonathan Ramos, 20, formerly from Philadelphia.

"I can't believe it," said Martin Hozlock. "I just was a little shook up hearing about the second fatality. I knew there was one, but I didn't know the other."

Hozlock was driving a BMW right behind the Jeep. He walked away without a scratch.

"I'm OK, thank God. I was just really concerned about with the other drivers, but obviously, it didn't work out for them."

Police closed off North River Street, backing up a lot of traffic.

"If you move too fast around the curve, you're going to lose, you know, your control of your car!" said Mike Salina of Wilkes-Barre.

Hozlock said he could hardly believe his vehicle didn't sustain much damage.

"I'm shocked I'm driving away from this."

The driver of the dump truck was taken to the hospital to be checked out. Police are still investigating exactly how the crash happened.
