ROSS TOWNSHIP -- A 93-year-old woman was the victim of thieves while she was distracted in her yard near Saylorsburg, according to state police.
Sara Jones has lived in her home since the 1960s. Over the weekend, she was actually outside cutting her grass just before thieves decided to distract her and take off with some sentimental items.
Jones, 93, says she loves cutting her grass and shoveling snow and was actually out mowing the lawn this weekend when something strange started to unfold at her home near Saylorsburg.
"There was a gentleman that came up and was talking to me. He parked his car across the street in the driveway there," Jones explained.
Troopers believe that's when thieves went into her home Saturday evening. Jones noticed things were out of place the moment she walked in the front door.
"The first thing I did was I looked here by the chair and my purse was gone and I went, 'no.'"
In that purse were her ID, credit cards, prescription sunglasses, and keys.
Then she noticed someone had smashed a jewelry box her father made back in the 1920s.
"When they found there wasn't any jewelry, they just crushed that on the floor. Then they went in my daughter's room and they took her two boxes of jewelry."
Jones says she's not afraid to show where she lives along Meixell Valley Road because this actually isn't the first time she's been robbed.
In 2011, neighbor Michael Babish stole jewelry and pleaded guilty to those theft charges.
Jones says after that theft, most of her valuables were already gone.
"I think they're going to be very disappointed if they try to get much for the jewelry because what was left was just costume jewelry. The first guy got all the good stuff," Jones said.
Now this 93 year old says she has this question for whoever stole from her this time.
"Why didn't you come to me personally and tell me you needed some help? I would have given you help."
Troopers tell us that they have identified some suspects in this latest theft who tried to use Jones' bank cards. There have been no arrests.
