NORRISTOWN -- On the word of just two witnesses, a judge in Montgomery County ruled the evidence against Pennsylvania District Attorney Kathleen Kane sufficient, and ordered Kane to face a criminal trial.

Kathleen Kane is accused of leaking confidential information to a newspaper, then lying about it under oath, and using a staffer to spy on the investigation.

Kane said nothing as she left the courtroom in Norristown.

Her lawyer called the judge's ruling disappointing, but not surprising.

"The entire story hasn't come out yet. I think a little more of the story evolved today, a little too slow for my taste. But we're looking forward to a trial," said defense attorney Gerald Shargal.

When she arrived at the Montgomery County courthouse, cameras focused on Kane's sister Ellen Granahan. Some thought her twin sister was a decoy, but off camera, Kane insisted her sister was there in support only.

Key testimony came from Montgomery County Detective Paul Bradbury, who read statements from a 2014 special grand jury that recommended criminal charges against Kane.

According to Bradbury, Kane's denial of leaking confidential information to a newspaper was contradicted by three current and former staffers at the AG's office.

"There's perjury. There's false swearing. A lot of that is as a result of testimony that she gave before a grand jury," said Montgomery County A.D.A. Kevin Steele.

During a recess at the hearing, the attorney general told a small group of reporters that she spent the weekend with her teenaged sons and that they are concerned about what might happen to their mother. Kathleen Kane said she's ready to fight.

No trial date has been set.
