LENOX TOWNSHIP -- One person is dead and another is injured after a crash Sunday morning in Susquehanna County.

State police said the driver lost control of his vehicle around 4 a.m. Sunday on State Route 374 in Lenox Township.

Troopers said Shannon Schuler, 22, of Nicholson died in the crash and the driver, a man from Hop Bottom, was taken to the hospital.

Investigators believe the driver lost control on State Route 374 while trying to follow a curve in the road. The man from Hop Bottom lost control. The vehicle went off the road, was airborne, hit a tree, and landed on its roof.

The driver was able to get out of the car.

People who live near the crash site in Lenox Township say there have been a handful of wrecks on the road.

"I've seen accidents there where the police were called or anything. They've run off the road or something, but it is a bad corner," said Kathy Marquez of Lenox Township.

Kathy and Robert Marquez live on State Route 374. They say the road can be dangerous when drivers go too fast and don't see the curve coming.

"You gotta slow down. That's the main issue," said Robert Marquez of Lenox Township.

Kathy added, "They're not familiar with the road and do go kind of fast."

Police say no one in the vehicle was wearing a seat belt when it crashed.

Robert says on a windy road like this one, he can't believe people wouldn't buckle up.

"The thought of being thrown out a vehicle? Yeah that's scary. I always put a seat belt on. That's what makes me do it," added Robert.

Troopers in Susquehanna County say neither the driver or the passenger wore a seat belt during the crash.
