HANOVER TOWNSHIP -- Police in Luzerne County say a 21-year-old pedestrian was killed early Saturday morning in a hit and run in Hanover Township near Wilkes-Barre.
Family members tell Newswatch 16 the victim is Joey Coleman.
According to investigators, the victim was walking along Main Road just before 6:00 Saturday morning, when a vehicle traveling north in the Buttonwood section of Hanover Township hit him and took off.
Part of Main Road in Hanover Township was closed Saturday morning while authorities investigated.
Relatives say they are in shock, this is the second young person in their family to die in a year's time. They say Coleman loved music and played the guitar.
A neighbor says his wife was up at the time of the crash and did not hear the sound of a vehicle trying to stop.
Tony Spinozza said, "Around 20 to 6 [o'clock] she came in and woke me up and said 'Tony, there is something going on outside, there are some police cars outside. I see a body in the middle of the road'."
People we met in the area say they are disappointed to hear the driver did not stop.
Patricia LaFevre said, "You can't have that kind of coldness about another person's life, and not respect it, because God got you either way."
