WILKES-BARRE -- People who wanted to do business with Luzerne County on Tuesday may need to hold it off for another day.

The Luzerne County Courthouse and the county annex buildings were closed for the day because both were without water Tuesday morning.

The Luzerne County jail was also without water.

Officials also say water was turned back on at the Luzerne County Annex Building around 9:45 a.m. and the courthouse around 1:15 p.m.

Signs were posted on the entrances of the Luzerne County Courthouse and annex buildings and were the only message folks received about the buildings being closed. Both were shut down due to the water main break in Kingston, but the signs came too late to some folks, like one woman who came from Dallas to get the paperwork to lay her late mother to rest.

"This is the first time I was able to get down here to get everything straightened out for my mother's death," said Lynne Hesscease.

Chris Jones had a court case and had no idea the building was closed.

"The courts can only do what they can do in a situation like this. I imagine it's going to result in the cancelation and rescheduling of matters, but we'll find out."

Emergency cases, like PFAs, were held at Penn Place on North Pennsylvania Avenue. Non-emergency cases are to be rescheduled.

A couple trying to get a marriage license at the Luzerne County annex building are hoping the sign on the door forcing them to turn around doesn't have bigger meaning.

"I took the day off from work and expected to get my license, be in and out and shut down; it's a bummer," said Matt Rynkiewicz.

The county parking lot is usually jammed packed with vehicles. The open spaces were the first sign for some people thought that there was a problem.

"When I saw no cars in the parking lot, I thought, 'Is today a holiday,' or, 'Did they change the parking policies?'" said Will Conyngham.

Folks can only hope the buildings will reopen Wednesday.

"Gotta get the work done!" said Matt Riley of Edwardsville.
