PIKE COUNTY -- A federal judge has ruled she will not overturn the sentence of a convicted murderer from the Poconos.

Gregory Alan Rowe is locked up, serving two life sentences for murdering a 17-year-old and her 7-month-old daughter in Pike County in 2004.

Rowe petitioned to have his sentence overturned two years ago, but a judge has refused that request.

Rowe was sentenced to serve two life sentences for murdering his ex-girlfriend Kristin Fisher, 17, and her daughter Kaylee, 7 months old.

Investigators said Rowe strangled Fisher and drowned their baby, then staged the scene to make it look like Fisher killed the infant, then committed suicide.

Rowe did it all so he could avoid paying child support.

The district attorney asked for the death penalty in the case, but jurors decided to spare Rowe's life.

Rowe's mother, Cheryl Kunkle, was accused of hindering the investigation in Rowe's crime. Like her son, she is also locked up for the rest of her life.

As her son was being sentenced to life behind bars, she was awaiting her own trial in Monroe County.

A jury found her guilty of murdering her ex-boyfriend, the father of her young son.

Police said she sprayed Benjamin Amato in the face with pepper spray then beat him to death with a baseball bat.

Kunkle also filed an appeal to her sentence in 2013.
