KINGSTON -- On this hot summer day, the Kingston pool is the place to be for kids in this part of Luzerne County.

"You could just swim, chillax, there's a snack bar right over there if you would just like to have something to eat. I mean, it's a pretty nice place for families and kids of all ages," Conner Uzer of Kingston said.

After 50 years in the books, the pool will soon begin a $1 million renovation project thanks to state and local money.

Pool manager Allie Kane says she's grateful.

"Other pools around the area are closing and they don't have the resources like we did to get a project like this going. We're really excited to get this going for hopefully another 50 years," Kane said.

Now that it's August that means there is only a few weeks left before the pool closes for the season.

Workers say once the pool closes for the season, renovations will be getting started right away.

By next season members will find a tube slide where the high diving board is now. There will be a second slide in a shallower area of the pool.

The pool also plans to have a section for younger kids with an aqua umbrella.

Willieen Davis-Jackson says she's surprised to see so many upgrades coming to the pool.

"I just figured that you'd be going out farther for a bigger pool than what they have now, but I'm happy," Davis-Jackson said.

The Kingston pool will close for the season on August 22.

Workers say all of the upgrades should be complete for next summer.
