EAST CHILLISQUAQUE TOWNSHIP -- A woman critically injured last year after a tragic incident on Interstate 80 near Milton was at an event in her honor Saturday in Northumberland County.

Hundreds of supporters showed up for Sharon Budd and her family for the second Budd Strong Bike Ride.

This time last year, Sharon Budd was lying in a hospital bed at Geisinger Medical Center near Danville facing a long road to recovery.

Budd was badly hurt after a group of teens threw a boulder from an I-80 overpass in Union County.

The teacher from Ohio was in the passenger seat while her daughter was driving. The boulder hit her in the face with devastating consequences.

A year later, she is still recovering but all smiles at an event held in her honor in near Milton.

"I am overwhelmed by again the amount of motorcycles and guests that are here and mostly by the amount of people that are here," said Sharon Budd. "Randy came here last year and said when all the motorcycles turned on that I will be overwhelmed with all the noise and the excitement."

Sharon is recovering from her final surgery. While she still has a long way to go, she and her family are overwhelmed by the amount of support from people in Pennsylvania.

"To do this for a second year it's in a way really unbelievable because I did have my doubts," said Randy Budd, Sharon's husband. "But I cannot believe she is here, she's here this year and that's the most important thing."

For the second year, hundreds of motorcycle enthusiasts from central Pennsylvania showed up to LT's Tavern near Milton to go on a ride to honor Sharon.

Unable to make it last year, Sharon stood front and center the second time around surrounded by people in Budd Strong t-shirts.

"I made a promise that we would do it again this year and that is why we are here again this year," said Lori Strickland, organizer.

For a second year in a row, there is a very special rider jumping on one of the bikes to take part in this event. It's Sharon's daughter Kaylee. She told us that she is very excited to see her mother's face as she leaves for the ride.

"It's definitely nice to have her here this time around. She's a little nervous. She got kind of mad that I rode last year because she doesn't like me riding on motorcycles," said Kaylee. "But yeah it's awesome that she is able to be here. Her recovery is amazing and I cannot believe she is here right now."

Sharon added, "I want to see her participate and you know get on the motorcycle and start the run."

With her seventh surgery complete, the Budd family says they are looking forward to the future.

"Everything is on hold for a while. As far as job goes and at home, I am just going to keep accepting more responsibility," said Sharon.

"I saw her when the rock came through the windshield. People are saying miracle and I never really believed in miracles. I do now. All the prayers," said Randy tearing up.

Now that the Budds' prayers have been answered, they are looking forward to what lies ahead.

One of the four teens in this case is currently serving jail time, two others are expected to be sentenced later this summer, and the fourth recently pleaded no contest in Union County court.
