PLAINS TOWNSHIP -- One day after we showed you a woman in Luzerne County who had her swimming pool vandalized several times this summer, a generous pool business decided to help.
The company saw our story and donated a brand new pool.
"I was, actually I'm going to get choked up. I got a call this morning from Rich at Olympic Pools who said he was going to donate a brand new 24-foot Intex pool, the same as what I have but two feet bigger," said Becky Kashula of Plains Township.
Olympic Pools general manager Rich Giamusso tells Newswatch 16 Kashula stopped by the Wilkes-Barre store a few times to buy new liners when the pool was vandalized in the past.
After the latest incident, company members decided to step up and help.
"You know we just feel that she has been through a lot. She is trying to do good for not only herself, but for other people. So this is something we felt good about doing," Giamusso said.
There was some concern about the lack of fencing around the pool, but according to the township ordinance, Kashula doesn't need one on this particular pool because it's four and a half feet up from the ground. What she needs is a lockable ladder or she can physically remove the ladder from the pool. That's what she chose to do in this case and that's what she will continue to do with her new pool, which is the same height.
"Even if I'm in my house. This pool is never unattended without me here," Kashula said.
Kashula says she plans to set her new pool up within the next week and try to enjoy what is left of the summer.
"I'm really excited. I think this time I'm going to start swimming in it," Kashula said.
Kashula plans to look into surveillance cameras for her backyard and hopes the vandals are caught soon.
Anyone with information on the vandalism is asked to contact to Plains Township police.
