TUNKHANNOCK -- A version of the popular ABC show Shark Tank is coming to life in Wyoming County.

Based on the popular show, the chamber of commerce is encouraging local entrepreneurs to pitch their ideas to area business leaders as part of a new program called "Chamber Challenge."

"We're trying to inspire entrepreneurs to apply to win cash prizes, but more importantly to make connections they need to bring their idea to the next level," said Gina Suydam, Wyoming County Chamber of Commerce.

The winner with the best pitch will take home $3,000 plus mentoring with access to legal advice and potential investors.

"It's not the horse, it's the jockey," explained Bill Kelley, CEO of Taylor Rental BX3 and a judge for the program. "It's that person that can make it work, put the energy into it every day and make the right decisions. That's really what I'm looking for in my businesses and in business investment."

The competition isn't just for residents or small businesses in Wyoming County. It's actually open to anyone in the endless mountains area.

Lonni Schmeckenbecher works at a flower shop in Tunkhannock. This past December, she started a small cleaning business called Squeaky Green, which uses only non-toxic chemicals. So the idea of possibly getting some support makes the challenge all worthwhile.

"I feel like there are some things that hold back small businesses and hold back people," said Schmeckenbecher. "But when your community is ready to support and rally around you and really cheer you on, I think that's really exciting.

Five finalists will be announced in October, with a winner chosen on November 5.
