LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- The 2015 Special Olympics World Games are underway in Los Angeles.

Athletes from around the world are competing in 25 sporting events, everything from bocce and basketball to horseback riding.

One member of Team USA is Amanda Swazey from Selinsgrove.

Swazey won a silver medal in this week's Special Olympics Equestrian Competition.

However, she said the highlight of her world games experience happened last Saturday night.

"I got to meet Mrs. Obama. It was awesome," said Swazey.

The first lady officially kicked off the world games at the opening ceremonies at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.

Closing ceremonies for the games are set for Sunday in Los Angeles.

There is no word on when Swazey will be bringing her silver medal back to Snyder County.
