ASHLAND -- A death investigation is underway in Schuylkill County after two people were found dead inside a home.

Authorities say they were called to a home in the 2000 block of Walnut Street in Ashland around 9:30 p.m. on Monday for a welfare check.

Ashland police say they found the bodies of Karen Kimmel and Donald Erb in a home on Walnut Street in Ashland. Both Kimmel and Erb were in their 50s.

Ashland police were called to check on someone at this home on Walnut Street in the borough. When police got to the house, they saw a body lying on the floor.

The authorities say they forced their way inside and found another body.

We now know those bodies were Donald Erb and Karen Kimmel.

Newswatch 16 spoke with neighbors who say Kimmel was a quiet person, friendly, and would keep to herself. But when they heard the two people in the home were dead they couldn't believe it.

"They've been there for quite a while, but whatever happened between them, I wouldn't know," said Louise Hardknock.

Ashland police are still investigating, but they say there is no danger to the public.

Right now, officials are looking at this as a potential murder/suicide.

The Schuylkill County coroner says autopsies on Kimmel and Erb are scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday in Reading.
